A new Airdrie is preparing to apply for membership of the Scottish Football League
Airdrie supporter Jim Ballantyne has registered two companies- Airdrie FC Ltd and Airdrie Football Club Ltd.
Ballantyne is hoping to re-build without buying the original name of Airdrieonians Football and Athletic Club from liquidators KPMG.
KPMG insist the club name will only be sold together with the sale of the Shyberry Excelsior Stadium which means the new club, if is successful could be without a home.
'Airdrie Football Club Ltd is a separate entity from the Airdrie which we all knew,' said Ballantyne. 'This is a vehicle to keep senior football alive in the Airdrie area. 'We will certainly bid for this new club to get league membership. "We have finance in place and we have access to a ground to play our games.'

I received this email today from an Airdrieonians supporter.
I would like to thank all those from clubs around the UK for their messages of support. Plans for some sort of rally are being made...details to follow.
In the meantime, could I ask everyone who believes that Airdrie should be given the chance to re-enter the SFL to cut and paste the statement below into an email to:
savethediamondspetition@fsmail.net
'I back the efforts of all supporters of Airdrionians FC to preserve a senior football club within the town of Airdrie and urge all members of the Scottish Football League to vote to ensure that Airdrie retain a presence within the League.'
The completed petition will be handed to Peter Donald of the SFL.
Once again, thanks for all the support.
ps please post this message to as many (football related) bulletin boards as possible

After two years of uncertainty and after a final appeal to save the club failed to produce a buyer Airdrieonians has lapsed into full liquidation.
All the club's assets are now for sale, including the club's interest in the Excelsior stadium, a small retail unit and the name of Airdrie FC.
The only hope now for the fans is that with the club name for sale a buyer may come in for the name and resurrect the club though if this happens it is unlikely to be in the first division. If the club is allowed to continue they may even have to apply for readmission.
This is a very sad day for all football fans. Airdrie are the first Scottish club to go out of business since 1967
