NE63 Supporters Club, a supporters association independent from the football club and their committee, held a meeting to discuss their response.
Wherever you go the name of Ashington is intrinsically linked with the game of football. The Charlton brothers, Jackie and Bobby, both members of England's World Cup winning side of 1966, Jackie Milburn, Newcastle's greatest number nine, Jimmy Adamson... the list is endless. All proud sons of Ashington and all responsible for sewing the name of the town deep into the very fabric of football. Because of this the NE63 Supporters Club were shocked to learn of the council's plans to leave the town without a football team playing within its boundaries for a period of up to three years.
They will therefore be raising a petition to urge the council to reconsider this decision and find the club an alternative location within the town before they move them from their current home at Portland Park, a home that they have occupied for 99 years.
