East Stirlingshire

Shiretrust ready for the challenge!

22-Feb-2005

East Stirlingshire Football Club is one of the oldest and proudest clubs in Scottish football. Since being formed in 1881 the club has had many ups and downs and has experienced all the highs and lows that football throws up.

shiretrust was formed by supporters of East Stirlingshire, with the express aim of thwarting club chairman, Alan Mackin, who wishes to sell Firs Park, the club's only asset, and distribute the bulk of the proceeds to the shareholders.

Mackin, the major shareholder, is attempting to overcome the voting system of the club which limits the power of a large block of shares, by distributing a large number of shares among friends and family.

Last week saw the first AGM of shiretrust and now that this hurdle has been jumped, the supporters trust are drawing up an action plan. The members of shiretrust are not averse to the selling of Firs Park as long as the proceeds are used to the benefit of the club.

Supporters have been greatly assisted this season by Littlewoods Pools decision to sponsor the club, as this has kept the club firmly in the spotlight and hence there has been very little activity by the board. However, this deal is coming to an end and shiretrust needs to be ready to take up the challenge of trying to ensure the survival of one of the oldest football clubs in existence.
