Below are extracts from a PISA 2000 press release
The committee of PISA 2000 would like to publicly back the recent views expressed in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, that 'Peterborough United is in a mess'. Indeed, we feel that it is now close to reaching its darkest hour. As long standing supporters of the club, the current plight is as heartbreaking as it is worrying, and the off the field turmoil is killing it.
Mr. Boizot, we urge you to bring this sorry period in Posh's history to a conclusion, as many fans have taken just about as much of this takeover farce they can stomach. The loss of 1000 fans in just over a week shows that many people are voting with their feet. PISA committee members will be joining them on the 14th September 2002, by not attending the home game versus Crewe that day, as a protest at the depths to which the club has sunk on and off the pitch. Instead, they will be watching a video of the 1992 Play Off Final match, at their Ebeneezers base in Grove Street, Woodston, Peterborough. We do not take this decision lightly, and realise that some may see this lack of financial support as counter productive. In response, we would say that the stalled takeover is doing far more harm to the club financially than we could ever do. A lack of a shirt sponsor, and dwindling crowds are just two examples. We would also like to stress that this decision is taken by the PISA2000 committee members only, and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of our members. However, any of our members, or indeed other Posh fans, are welcome to join us on the 14th September.
Looking further ahead, should the takeover not be concluded by the 30th September 2002, we will also not attend the home game versus Mansfield on the 12th October 2002. Instead, we plan to watch the United Counties League game between Yaxley and St Neots on that day. Again, this is a decision of the committee only, but again we would welcome any other members or Posh fans to join us, should we be forced to proceed with our plan. Further details of this match will be announced as and when appropriate.
It gives us no pleasure in seeing Posh in this plight, but the 'mess' lies firmly at the door of the club. The sooner the culture of blame is removed, and some positive action taken, the better.
Paul Donnelly
PISA2000 Chairman on behalf of the PISA2000 Committee.
