Salisbury City

Back in the league

29-Jul-2002

Salisbury City FC is back in the Eastern Division of the Dr Martens League.

A consortium led by Nev Beal and Dave Harold have rescued the clubs immediate crisis. The season coming will give a clue to the further future of the club.

There maybe a lifeline, slim as it may be it's there.
The FA have not accepted Sailsbury's withdrawal from the Dr Martins League as it did not come from an official of the club and wasn't on headed paper.
The club will not only get a 5k fine for withdrawing but an extra 1k for each match cancelled. The total of fines will be close to the loss for the season So it should be possible to play and lose it. But still have a chance to turn it around.

The Dr Martens League have said they are there to help.

The club secretary has said today that all the home friendly matches are back on and they are still working on the away mathes

I've just returned from what was our Football Club until a few hours ago. The club has been closed in a disgraceful and underhand manner. Pulled out of the league without anyone being given the chance to fight. A bland press release given at 10 to 5 on a monday afternoon which was only actually passed to the media through the supporters.
Robert Wike proved how little he knows or cares about football. Apparently the facility is still available for the citizens of Salisbury! There's a chance for enthusiasts now! Except we've no league to play in. Some enthusiasts were at the ground tonight - including two members of the consortium turned down despite their offer earlier in the summer, a higher one than KCB's actual cash offer, and yet they weren't even given an opportunity befre Mr Wike committed his final act.
Fines for withdrawing from the League, FA Cup, Trophy, sponsors money to be returned, it doesn't matter to them.
Why now? After a meeting on friday when £20,000 was asked to be raised, 3 days later with little opportunity of press publicity, £10,000 had been pledged. Friendlies with Yeovil and Bournemouth to raise the profile and give us a chance to from some kind of fighting force. Win a few league games, have a bit of a Cup run......no, that would have all given us a chance to survive, isn't this the way they really want it? It must have been to finish it like this.
